Que dia es el dia de la mujer 20213/2/2024 Following this event, a labor and political reform was set in motion across the United States, and the world, in favor of safe and decent work conditions. On march 25th of the very same year, the largest work tragedy in the history of New York took place, where 123 women lost their lives as a result of a fire in a textile factory. The celebration joined millions of women in Europe who demanded voting rights, representativity in public offices, working rights, vocational training and the abolishment of work discrimination. One year later, the American Socialist Party declared Women’s Day and it was celebrated internationally on march 19th, 1911 after the unanimous decision of hundreds of women from 17 different countries that gathered in a working women’s conference in Copenhagen. It was not until 1908 that the first protest took place, with over 15 thousand women in New York who demanded less work hours, better wages and the right to vote. From the mid XIX century, concrete activism for equality began with the first National Convention for Women’s Rights in the United States, where hundreds of women participated and were mocked mainly for requesting the right to vote. Women were even more limited than now when it came to their civil, social, political and religious rights: severe restrictions took place when they wanted to vote, manage their accounts, decide their academic training and their life expectancy was shorter than men due to terrible work conditions, lack of salubrity in childbirth and the different forms of violence that they faced. Background and history of International Women’s Day Likewise, we seek to develop critical thinking through our institutional values helping students recognize and inform against unfair practices with adequate and assertive arguments. In Villa Per Se we guide our work based on the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the UN, the fifth goal corresponds to gender equality which is why we align our labor when we propose equal treatment between children, so that girls can also develop their happiness and conduct themselves equally through trades and the importance of mutual respect. International days, according to the United Nations (UN), provide a chance to spread awareness about topics of great interest and get attention from the media and governments to showcase problems that have not been resolved and require concrete political measures. Despite the achieved social progress, it is utterly important that on the forthcoming march 8th we reflect about the situation of women and our rights both in Peru and in the world. International Women’s Day has been celebrated in the third month of the year for eleven decades now.
